Kindred Spirits

"Marilla is a famous cook. She is trying to teach me to cook but I assure you, Diana, it is uphill work. There's so little scope for imagination in cookery. You just have to go by the rules. The last time I made a cake I forgot to put the flour in."

The 8th Wonder of the World

We rented the original King Kong tonight. What a riot...it was actually pretty impressive filming, I thought, but you gotta laugh at a monster gorilla "wrastling" a t-rex to the ground and then breaking its jaw. ;) I only lasted about an hour and a half into it - that girl's fire engine siren screaming gets a little old. However, I am looking forward to seeing the Peter Jackson one in the theater on Christmas Eve.

Really, all the parts that were funny because of their fakiness (although not bad considering that it was what, 1930?!) might be pretty amazing if you'd never seen, say, Lord of the Rings. I mean, compared to John Wayne movies, this is pretty intense, right? I wonder if we'd never seen a modern movie or advertisements or any 90s-00s media, what we'd think of it...

To make up for last week, I got some GOOD ones here, people!!!

iPod news: (this is for Jen) TURN DOWN YOUR IPODS!!!

Amanda sent me this link yesterday. She calls it "motivation". Silly girl. Thanks, girlie. I'll need this motivation in the next couple weeks when everyone and their dogs are taking off of work.

Go Speed-Lacer. Go Speed-Lacer. Go Speed-Lacer, GO-OOOOOO!!!! These look sweet.

The Chroc-WHAT?-Cles of Narnia. Once in awhile, SNL pulls off something hilariously funny.
"Let's hit up yahoo maps to find the dopest route.
I prefer Mapquest! That's a good one too.
Googlemaps is the best! True dat! Double true!"

Ok, this is the coolest thing. I watched it at the beginning of this week, and thought, "That doesn't WORK!" Then I tried it...seriously, I will never peel eggs the same again.

You science-type people will have to tell me how accurate this article is.

In case you didn't get your Christmas baking done, now you can get your "decorating fix".

Man dates his mom! Ok, it sounds nasty. Well, it IS nasty. But it's a funny story. Read it.

I think maybe some of you might like who TIME magazine chose for Persons of the Year. Or at least you'll like one of the persons. :) You may want to check out their Best Photos of the Year too. It reminds me of this crazy sad year we've had...

Google Music Search? It's about time!!

Ok, this may take awhile to load, but you only really need to watch the first 30 seconds or so. It is a mirror made out of little pieces of wood that are shifted to create a reflection of what is in front of it. Pretty sweet. If you like this, check out all of Daniel Rozin's Interactive Art. Pretty cool.

Ok, I'll save the rest for next week.

Merry Christmas everybody!!

Indie Rock

Please forgive me for not posting. I'm just not gonna post math problems. No math can find me here from now on.
A few months ago I was reading something about indie rock. I then realized that I didn't know the formal definition of the term "Indie Rock". So I went a searchin and I found this site. I hope you ladies find it as informative as I did.

Just a quick Metaphysical Speculation Madame Administrator could we possibly have a search operation for our site like www.dooce.com?

I was just wondering...

Thursday Links

I don't have many this week. There just isn't anything good out there right now! Or maybe I'm just not surfing hard enough. Enjoy anyway.

iPod news: still #1 Christmas gift, still overpriced. Nothing new.

No More School

Classes and tests are finally over. No mo O this.... Independent, but not identically distributed, Bernoulli trials are performed. If the ith(eyeth) trial results in success with probability p(i)..... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Yeah I didn't want to do that problem either. Now I can get out of my house and go see my friends. Yeah. The Great Tea Exchange needs to be scheduled.

iPod news: Podcasting is officially a word!

Amanda "tuned me in" to this website. You can make your own custom internet radio station. It's pretty sweet. Just don't get your boss mad at you for taking up bandwidth.

This is nasty.

Ainsley got me addicted to a wonderful and quirky website called Dooce. She makes me laugh. She makes me cringe. She makes me blush. Good stuff. Anyway, awhile back, she linked to this post on The Subliminal Reassurances of Procedural Dramas. Way too funny.

Eye Direction and Lying. VERY interesting....or is it?

Tight rope walking elephant.

Napoleon and Pedro when they were little.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest trailer. I don't know. The trailer makes it look like Jack is this vaudeville comedian in the middle of a pseudo-serious-scary movie. They could've chose better music. I hope it's not that disappointing.

A Pandog? Cute!!

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

Except if you have a puppy to keep you warm! This was taken on our Christmas tree hunt over Thanksgiving weekend up in the Crazies.
(Notice how he's trying to catch snowflakes on his tongue!)

A Senior Concert

Last night was Melodee's senior recital, featuring solos and duets with her good friend Amanda (a different one! One who can sing). They started with "Sisters" from White Christmas, and then sang other fun ones, Italian and German songs which were beautiful although I only understood about 6 words, and some of the best but lesser-known Christmas songs like "Mary Did You Know?"

They even had choreography, and costumes, and plastic spiders they threw into the audience during "Little Miss Muffet"! It was very enjoyable - thanks, Melodee. :) Now you need to give us a mini recital for Brooke!

The church right across from the National Gallery, London - cool Picasa effects

iPod news: TiVo + iPod Video = ohmygoshthecoolestthingever

Survivor news: Finale date announced...December 11th. Can you think of any better way to spend three hours on a Sunday night??? Ahhh....

In other news: Ronald McDonald robs Wendys! Yeah, seriously!

Ok, old-school-Nintendo-Mario freaks, you will find this Mario unleashed video VERY amusing. What it lacks in resolution quality, it makes up for in so many other ways...

Bad dog.

I'm getting this for Amanda for Christmas (hat tip: Every blog needs a title)

Click here to watch the new M. Night Shyamalan
movie trailer. It looks wonderfully bizarre.

Venice is sinking? I didn't know that, but I guess it makes sense.

Amanda, Anna, Melodee and I all went to see Walk The Line last week. Good stuff. Anyway, I found this video of Johnny singing his song Hurt. I promised Melodee I would post the link. I just have a new appreciation for the guy and his music.

Today's Pearls is funny.

Here's what NOT to buy for Christmas. Just in case you were wondering...
