Familiarity
There's that old saying that "familiarity breeds contempt," but I'm not so sure that's usually true. In general, I think being familiar with something makes me much more tolerant of it. There's examples of how that works both ways, too - for instance, songs I used to like that got overplayed and now I don't care for much, and songs that I didn't like at first, but through hearing them often enough in a context I liked (with friends, on a good day, etc.), I got sorta attached to 'em.
What do you guys think?
Or even if you don't think anything about this, just post something!! ;-) Brooke? Sue? Annie? Brian? Molly?
Cache?
Cache says...
Woof!

I agree, Amanda: I think it goes both ways.
And, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one experiencing a bit of a blogging dry spell!

Can i comment as well? I know I'm not one of your listed few, but I feel kindred with human-kind and I love the romance of Anne with an "e." Her ability to feel life is invigorating to watch. Well, my feeling about familiarity is that the more I have it towards something or someone the better I love it or them. It doesn't matter to me if I didn't even like the song when it was first produced, when I hear a lovely remake of it on a movie such as Mulan Rouge it gives me chills. But I guess sometimes when a song is butchered in a commercial, it's no fun such as "Do you believe in magic" that McDonalds used to use. I would love you to comment on my blog. Although I love Anne of Green Gables (especially her interactions with Katherine with a “K”, her wise words, and her delightful descriptions), I found your blog by our comment interest in the book The Little Minister. I’m glad to have found your words.

Asia, sure, we're glad to have your comments!
Wow, I don't think anyone else has found this this blog because of The Little Minister before. :)

Hey Asia, The Little Minister is one of my all-time favorites. I collect it, actually - I think I've probably had at least 15 different bindings in my possession before, each of them unique and beautiful. I still run across bindings I haven't seen. It was certainly a popular book in its time; what a shame people don't know about it now...Wait, I take that back. If it was popular now, I wouldn't be able to afford 20 copies... :)
And speaking of familiarity - I think in me it breeds love. That's why I re-read books so much (like TLM!). I don't get tired of the same story; I love it more each time I read it.

When I think of familiarity, I think of the people that I am familiar with. In this case, I agree with the saying because it is always the people I love the most (ie. family) that I tend to hurt the most. I am very quick to get angry with or say something hurtful to one of my family members because we know each other so well and we have the ammo to potentially cause each other pain. Sad.
